Seppelt Drumborg Chardonnay 2016 (6 Bottle Case)
Sourced from the mature, cool-climate Drumborg vineyard planted in 1964 in the far south-west corner of Victoria, this Seppelt Drumborg Chardonnay is an expression of purity and balance. Select parcels of Chardonnay from across the Drumborg Vineyard were chosen for their intensity of flavour and mineral acid structure.
100% fermented in oak. Matured on gross lees in barrel for 9 months, followed by 2 months maturation on gross lees in tank. Aromas of citrus blossom, brioche, toasted hazelnuts and lemon curd, with hints of struck match. The palate is concentrated and long, showing grapefruit pith, white stonefruit and a mealy texture. Subtle, nutty French oak combined with mineral acid produces a complex wine with balance and intensity.
95 points James Halliday, 95 points Mike Bennie, 4 Silver, 2 Bronze
"Layered, textured flavours flaunt their wares as they stroll across the palate, leaving nothing to the imagination. History shows this wine will age superbly, even if a little more quickly than in the cool years. Balance is the key to the glory box." James Halliday
"An effort to let the fruit shine. Lovers of great Australian chardonnay with a penchant for great Chablis should step right up.
So much chardonnay flavour here, proper stuff, nashi pear and ripe citrus, lip-smacking ripe limey acidity, gentle spread of understated almond paste and oatmeal., finishes with slate-like minerality. Yes thanks. Perfume is as hoped, lively, fruity, faintly nutty and spicy, but it’s the flow and texture and moreish feel to the wine that seduces the most. Drinkability is through the roof, and yet complexity and concentration of flavour is too, and then the wine is elegant, fine and long. Outstanding." Mike Bennie
